At the beginning of this Great Week, the Church chooses for us biblical texts that remind us of what She had said, on the first day of the fast, about the end times. Why is the end being mentioned both at the beginning and the end? The Great Lent is one whole which tells that God is “here now”, from now till eternity. Talking about the judgement is to build life on the fact that God is ever close. How do we renew our life being aware that God exists in an eternal movement towards us? Without this, we cannot understand, every time we seek His Face in this life, that He is the One to come. In Christianity, there is no separation between the talk about God Who is coming on the last day and His presence in a finite time. This is of the reasons for our complete healing. I have mentioned to you before that Adam, by his sin, had broken his time which was eternal. The fast, in its entirety, is a journey towards Pascha, in which God had restored to us the gift of eternal life!
