I have a friend who was overcome by COVID-19 complications. His physician encouraged his family, every day, to be “a little patient”. I knew, from other physicians, that the war on the pandemic had taught them that overcoming it is always a possibility. My friend, as a servant of the Lord, was, by nature, patient. When he was admitted to the intensive care unit, his physician never ceased exhorting him to be patient. Life is surrender. My friend was defeated while we were all expecting him to come out safe and sound. Yesterday, a common friend stopped me on the road. She brought to me her husband’s question about what happened to our friend. I told her. She asked, with bitterness: “why do the good people die?”. I said what we believe in. God had not promised us to survive every disease all the time, but that He will always be with us, even to the end of the age (Matthew 28:20). This is of the peace of Pascha the victories of which in us are greater than what our eyes see.
