A Fatherly Advice

In his book “From Miziara to Washington”, Sarkis Naoum recounted that Mr Ghassan Tueni had told them that, in his early adulthood, he wrote an article he considered to be great, and handed it to his father. His father took the article, tore it to pieces, and threw it in the waste basket. Then he told him: “if you want to work as a journalist, go down and start from the printing press”. This story brought me back to our reality today. Notice what this Facebook has given to us! Virtually, every one of us owns a printing press now! In general, we failed to consider that writing is an ascent, it is a “profession” in which no one becomes an expert, if he does not master it from beginning to end. Not only this, but also every one of us now has followers before whom he can unleash his thoughts, exalting whatever he pleases and disgracing whatever he pleases. No one is more honest than a loving father counseling his son. Indeed, like every profession, writing has its fathers.
